While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued since the commencement of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future without fear.”
The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The animal, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “6-7” – inspired by a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The craze became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to begin the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: happy, multicultural, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Each year, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
