Arteta Applauds a More Dependable Team and Confirms Havertz Injury Blow.

Mikel Arteta remains confident that his team can keep managing with player absences following confirming that attacker Kai Havertz is not ready for several more weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for Havertz

The Germany international has been sidelined for months due to an operation on his knee. Originally slated to return earlier in December, Arteta explained the player faced a hurdle when advancing his training and could not progress “the next phase.”

“Our experience helped us build a team that is far more dependable and has increased versatility,” Arteta said.

Tactical Decisions for Midweek Fixture

This update creates a tactical puzzle for the midweek home game against Brentford. A decision is required between sticking with Mikel Merino, who found the net playing out of position on Sunday, or recalling Viktor Gyökeres, who came back off the bench in the latter stages. Questioned if increased squad depth was aiding their league challenge, his response was positive. “Absolutely, as this campaign has presented greater challenges in some areas, and now the problems with the backline,” he added.

“We learned from the past that we need to utilize players in alternative spots, and they have to be able to perform various functions if we aim to challenge at this level. And the example of Mikel Merino.”

Arteta's Support for Frustrated Havertz

Speaking about the setback previously mentioned by Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta offered additional context. “His recovery was progressing. He failed to advance to the next level and now it appears like we have unlocked that.”

The manager conveyed his keenness to have him back. “We’re all desperate to have him. I mean, he is a footballer who, personally, I admire greatly for the qualities he offers to the team, but his personality, his nature. I watch him struggle while sidelined.”
