Around fifty automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Police then located multiple other marked automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests suggest the fluid was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; authorities are presently not aware of any harm in association with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the public for details.
A high-ranking official stated the incident rendered him speechless and had to be solved rapidly.
"This incident hits the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist attack five years ago," he stated on a platform, referring to the killing of nine victims by a gunman aiming at residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
