Glasgow Warriors kicked off their Champions Cup journey in ideal fashion with a valuable bonus-point win on the road against Sale.

Taking advantage of the wind at their backs, the hosts began strongly and raced to a fourteen-point lead within 20 minutes. Scores from the Sale skipper and teenage debutant Ollie Davies gave them early control.

But, the visitors responded admirably with two tries before half-time. Forward Hiddleston and flanker Rory Darge both went over to reduce the gap.

Additional second-half scores from Kyle Steyn and centurion Stafford McDowall pushed the Warriors' advantage to twelve points. A late reply for the hosts set up a tense finale, but the visitors held firm to claim a major first-round victory.

Glasgow Seize Initiative After Interval

The match started with a quick try as skipper Ernst van Rhyn drove over from short distance after only two minutes. An early injury to centre Rekeiti Ma'asi-White brought 19-year-old Ollie Davies into the action for his European debut.

Davies made an immediate contribution. Switching to fly-half, he ran a smart angle to collect an pass and score, making the home side's advantage.

Facing difficult conditions, the Warriors used their forward power to get back into the game. A strong line-out drive was touched down by hooker Gregor Hiddleston. Prior to the break, Darge barged over, with Hastings' conversion making it a narrow game at the interval.

Glasgow seized the lead for the first time early in the restart. A misjudged kick was gathered by No. 8 Dempsey, who fed captain Steyn to break a tackle and sprint to the line.

With in the ascendancy, Glasgow secured the bonus point when McDowall ran through a defender to score his century for the club. This try completed a run of twenty-six consecutive points.

The hosts found a lifeline when Marius Louw showed good skills to score. The conversion made it a five-point game with time left.

One last opportunity came for them from a throw in the corner, but they failed to secure the ball, confirming the Warriors' triumph.

Sale must bounce back ahead of a trip to face Clermont this weekend. Meanwhile, Glasgow Warriors will host European giants Toulouse to their home ground.
