A renowned South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the country's largest city Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a country struggling with persistent crime.
Warrick Stock, widely recognized as DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the downtown area on Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities reported the 40-year-old presenter was accosted by three individuals, with one began shooting at him before fleeing on foot.
The motive behind the incident is unknown and no suspects have been apprehended have taken place, according to authorities.
Police indicated that Stock was ambushed as he was exiting a premises in the vicinity of the city center landmark.
He had been present for hours at the building overseeing the implementation of security systems, which had been illegally inhabited by unidentified individuals, according to reports.
"It is alleged the victim was confronted by three unknown suspects after he parked his car, and they began shooting at him before escaping on foot," a police statement stated.
Security camera video reportedly captured a man with dreadlocks and dressed in what resembled a guard's attire firing shots on Stock before fleeing.
The DJ tried to run away after he was shot but fell down across the street.
Police added that Stock had an unused firearm and no items were stolen during the incident.
Key evidence, like cartridges, were found at the crime scene.

His sister, a close relative, said the relatives are devastated to come to terms with the loss.
"Words fail me. I cannot express the pain," she said.
"We know he was a representative for countless citizens. He addressed issues courageously about issues not many people were willing to discuss. This is a profound tragedy."
