The network's Top Fresh Series of This Year Earns a Major Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.

In October of last year, the late-night programming block saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the channel launched a completely new animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, evoking a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. During a period often marked by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Network Praise

In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and supported its peculiarly charming appeal.

"All of you showed up for this new show, praised it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about observing this lovable family navigate their daily lives.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa expressed his goal to help comedy break out of its prevailing layer of irony. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

Future Seasons

Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially catalyze that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to experience the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
