The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Munich was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to United’s forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be building momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
