Trump's Framework of Punishment and Favor

The ex-president's insatiable appetite for revenge has quickly transformed into a methodical system. During the twelve months, the leader's rage and caprices have assumed the shape of official policies similar to comparable to past authoritarian systems. Government personnel who fail to comply are immediately fired and succeeded by supporters. Critical officials who question him risk legal action, judicial process and punishment. Opponents have been labeled under administration orders as “hostile to national interests”, “against faith communities” and “against free markets”, and threatened with criminal charges as “security threats”.

Government Institutions Restructured

Each case involving targeting of critics and protection for supporters exhibits its own unique qualities. However, regardless of their particular character, they represent manifestations of what has arisen as a calculated approach. Such incidents are far from random. Trump's removal of Department of Justice prosecutors and law enforcement agents, alongside his placement of devotees in key roles, started rapidly, quickly took on a pattern, and has now been formed into a structure. DoJ and the law enforcement agency have been transformed into political bodies under the president's direct orders to execute his demands. Injustice has been rendered normal. It represents the retribution system.

Leadership is preoccupied with punishing the leader's perceived adversaries than they are with protecting our country's safety.

Within the Structure

The origin of this framework has been revealed in the court filing of multiple previous high-ranking Federal Bureau executives submitted in late summer in the US district court in the capital against agency head Kash Patel and attorney general Pam Bondi for wrongful dismissal in “a initiative of revenge against them for what Defendants judged to be a refusal to demonstrate sufficient devotion”. According to the filing that one official, the previous interim leader, describes a discussion in which Patel “openly confessed the illegality of his conduct”.

The official had attempted to shield FBI agents from being fired, the complaint claims. Patel advised him that “White House figures” – understood by Driscoll to be the White House and federal prosecutors – had instructed him to remove anyone who they identified as having worked on a criminal investigation against Trump. The complaint adds: “Patel explained that he had to fire the personnel his leaders told him to dismiss, because his capacity to hold his own role was contingent on the ouster of the personnel who handled cases involving the leader. Patel commented that there was nothing he or him could do to halt these or any other dismissals, because ‘the FBI attempted to incarcerate the chief in jail and he recalls it clearly.’” Once Driscoll advised Patel he was violating the FBI's own policies, the director reportedly said “he understood that and he knew the essence of the swift terminations were probably illegal”.

Widespread Consequences

Following his reported confession to Driscoll, the justice department and the Federal Bureau have been gutted and repurposed for Trump's retribution system. Several of the bureau's top officials were fired or compelled to leave in the initial period of the administration. Roughly thousands of legal professionals at the department have agreed to a “voluntary departure plan”. At least seven federal prosecutors, such as those in the Manhattan division, resigned in dissent over what they regarded as partisan influence in dropping the legal action against the local official, the mayor, in as a trade for his assistance with Trump's ICE arrests of foreign nationals. The anti-corruption unit of DoJ, which manages misconduct investigations, has been cut down to minimal staff. The equality section has been decimated: seventy percent of its personnel has departed. 33% of senior leaders at the justice department have resigned. The division upholding ecological regulations has seen departures of 50% its leadership.

Favors and Sanctions

Regarding the legal matter, the temporary lawyer for the southern district of New York, Danielle Sassoon, stepped down in objection against what she labeled as the “quid pro quo”. Tom Homan, the president's “immigration leader,” appeared as the agent with him on television to declare: “Unless he complies, I will return in New York City.”. Additionally, a former official, previously the senior DoJ official and a past legal representative, who negotiated the agreement, was awarded an judicial position, a potential stepping stone to the judicial branch.

His exemption for offenses committed while in office, awarded by the extraordinary ruling of the Republican majority on the highest court, thus preventing his prosecution over the January 6 insurrection and maintaining his political viability for the 2024 election, is the basis on which he relies to defend his loyalists. Under these circumstances, he has been freed to permit corruption. The impact of the supreme court decision saturates his presidency and the political party down to its bones. The court matter has spread. Similar to Richard Nixon's White House counsel he remarked about the Watergate
